Why Do People Get Rhinoplasty?
There are several reasons why rhinoplasty is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures Dr. Sanders performs in the San Fernando Valley. First, rhinoplasty can help increase your self-esteem and restore confidence in the way that you look.
The nose is one of the first facial features other people notice, and if you are not happy with the way that yours looks, this can severely impact your quality of life. By reshaping and contouring your nose into one you love, you will likely feel more joy on a daily basis.
Second, rhinoplasty can address breathing issues caused by a deviated septum, collapsed nostril, or another nasal obstruction. Many people who struggle with difficult breathing due to a nasal problem often find that their quality of life greatly improves after correcting the issue during a rhinoplasty.
Third, a rhinoplasty can correct a broken or damaged nose due to a previous injury. If you have fractured or damaged your nose with a sports injury, in a car accident, or even just bumping into a wall, Dr. Sanders can help restore your nose to its former shape with a rhinoplasty.
The Benefits of Getting a Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty offers a variety of benefits, including:
- More Confidence and Better Self-Esteem – Dr. Sanders can reshape and contour your nose into the perfect figure to balance and flatter your appearance. This often translates into more confidence and better self-esteem.
- Improved Breathing – If you struggle to breathe due to a deviated septum or a damaged nose, Dr. Sanders can help you live more comfortably and improve your breathing through a rhinoplasty procedure.
- Restore Facial Symmetry – If your nose is the most prominent part of your face and it overpowers your other features, Dr. Sanders can restore facial symmetry for an overall more balanced and aesthetically-pleasing appearance.
- Address Specific Nose Issues – Whether you have a humped nose, wide nostrils, drooping nose, hanging columella, or something else, Dr. Sanders can customize your procedure to address your specific issue.

Furthermore, your initial consultation is a great opportunity to meet Dr. Sanders and his team, ask questions, and address any concerns you may have regarding the procedure.
What Should I Do in Preparation?
Before your surgery, Dr. Sanders recommends you stop smoking, stop drinking alcohol, and avoid blood-thinning medication or supplements, including Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and various herbal supplements. Additionally, prepare for your surgery day by arranging for a ride home and childcare, if necessary.
Before your surgery day, Dr. Sanders will provide you with comprehensive instructions you can refer to when getting ready for your procedure.
What is it Like During Surgery? Is it painful?
Each rhinoplasty surgery is unique, depending on the patient’s unique needs and cosmetic goals. Your rhinoplasty procedure will be performed under deep sedation or general anesthesia at Dr. Sanders’ state-of-the-art surgical facility.
Next, he will make the necessary incisions; how many depends on the type of rhinoplasty you are having. Once your surgery is complete, Dr. Sanders will place splints on your nose to ensure it heals properly and close the incisions with sutures. This process generally takes around two to two and a half hours to complete.
What Should I Expect in Terms of Recovery?
After your rhinoplasty, Dr. Sanders recommends taking a week off from work and your daily activities to rest and allow your nose to heal. During your recovery, you can expect to have some swelling and bruising. You may also experience some mild discomfort, for which Dr. Sanders may prescribe pain medication.
After one week of recovery, you will return to Dr. Sanders to ensure your nose is healing correctly. After two weeks of recovery, he will remove the bandages and splints. You may still have some slight swelling and bruising, but at this point, you should begin to see how your new nose will look!

Are There Any Risks Involved?
As with any surgery, there are some risks associated with rhinoplasty, such as bleeding, infection, difficulty breathing, changes in sensations in and around the nose, misshapen nose, and scarring.
However, when choosing an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Sanders, these risks are significantly mitigated.
Will I Need to Request Off Extensive Time from Work?
It is recommended that you take at least one week off from work to prioritize your healing journey. If you resume your daily activities too soon, you risk injuring or damaging your nose during the recovery period, which may cause unnecessary complications or affect your end results.
Will There Be Scars After the Surgery?
Dr. Sanders is highly experienced in using specialized rhinoplasty techniques to minimize any scarring and deliver beautiful rhinoplasty results.
How Long Will My Results Last?
As long as you follow your plastic surgeon’s preparation and aftercare instructions, and properly take care of your nose, your rhinoplasty results should last many years.
Is Getting a Nose Job Really Worth it?
Dr. Sanders understands that an overly large or misshapen nose can negatively affect various aspects of your daily life. Rhinoplasty helps to address this so you can look and feel like your best self, restore your confidence, and improve your self-esteem.
