Children are a blessing, but there’s a price that your body pays with pregnancy and childbirth. If you wish you could get back your old figure, consider having a mommy makeover.

Dr. Sanders helps women in the Los Angeles area look and feel the way they did before their body changed with pregnancy. Overwhelmingly, our patients are thrilled with the results.

Benefits of a Mommy Makeover

Women choose to have a mommy makeover for a variety of reasons:

Better quality of life. Many patients tell us that after having children, they’ve changed the type of clothes they wear, stopped going to the beach, felt less comfortable in intimate situations, and generally avoided showing off their body. A mommy makeover is about “getting back” instead of “giving up.”

A single recovery. In one surgical session, Dr. Sanders can treat several features of your body. This will decrease the overall time that you spend healing.

Personalized treatment. Dr. Sanders tailors each mommy makeover to the patient’s needs and goals. Some common procedures he performs for women include:

  • Adding fullness with breast augmentation.
  • Restoring the breasts to a youthful position with a lift.
  • Reducing the size of uncomfortably large breasts.
  • Tightening the abdominal muscles and getting rid of excess skin and fat with a tummy tuck.

The exact procedures that make up your mommy makeover are personal and depend on your goals. With Dr. Sanders by your side, you can work together to find the ideal combination.

Am I a Candidate for Mommy Makeover?

Because mommy makeovers involve multiple surgical procedures requiring general anesthesia, you must be healthy enough for surgery. You must also have realistic expectations regarding the results a mommy makeover offers.

The recovery period requires you to rest, so you also need to be able to take time off from work and other responsibilities to heal correctly.

You also need to:

  • Be close to your ideal weight
  • Be done having children
  • Not have blood clotting or wound healing issues
  • Be done breastfeeding

Because giving birth can be a traumatic experience for your body, Dr. Sanders recommends waiting at least six months after giving birth before getting a mommy makeover.

If you cannot take time to recover or you have health conditions like diabetes, cardiovascular issues, and more, you may not be a good candidate for the procedure.

Procedures Included in a Mommy Makeover

One of the benefits of a mommy makeover is that it is fully customizable. You can tailor your experience to include the procedures you need to help you achieve the contour and changes you want. There are many different options that complement one another for more comprehensive results.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can replace lost volume and increase the size of your breasts. Both silicone and saline implants are available to leave you with breasts that look real, feel natural, and flatter your frame. Get fuller, rounder breasts that empower you to feel more confident when wearing the clothing you love.

Breast Lift

Perk up saggy, drooping breasts with a breast lift. Remove excess skin and reposition breasts to a higher position for a more youthful appearance. A breast lift can gently reshape and tighten your breasts as well as improve nipple projection following changes from pregnancy, breastfeeding, or aging.
Learn More

Breast Reduction

Reduce strain on your neck and back from overly large, heavy breasts with a breast reduction. Smaller breasts can improve comfort as well as symmetry and aesthetic balance of the chest to the rest of your body. Find a breast size that works well for you and your lifestyle.
Learn More

Liposuction

Some areas of fat can be hard to get rid of even with vigorous exercise and a healthy diet. Liposuction helps to target these areas, eliminate fat cells, and create a flatter, firmer physique. It can be used on your abdomen as well as your back, thighs, arms, and other areas.
Learn More

Tummy Tuck

Tone up your midsection with a tummy tuck. This procedure can be used to remove stubborn pockets of fat as well as excess skin that is keeping you from the smooth, contoured abdomen that you want. It may also be effective in removing stretch marks and tightening abdominal wall muscles.
Learn More

Fat Transfer

A fat transfer can have a two-fold effect. It can remove unwanted pockets of fat from one area of your body while enhancing curves and restoring lost volume in another. Fat can be injected into areas where you want a little more volume, and it is all natural.

Other Procedures

In addition to addressing changes in your midsection, a mommy makeover can include procedures that enhance other areas of your body as well.

Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser skin resurfacing stimulates collagen production and can help minimize the appearance of fine lines, scars, and sunspots while enhancing skin tone and texture.

Learn More

Facial Injectables

Facial injectables can help combat signs of aging. Smooth fine lines and wrinkles, plump lips, and define facial features in a way that looks natural.
Learn More

Thigh Lift

Fluctuations in weight can leave loose skin across the thighs. A thigh lift can smooth and tighten the appearance of the upper leg.
Learn More

Arm Lift

Get rid of unwanted fat and excess skin that can hang off of the upper arms. An arm lift can improve tone and contour.

Mommy Makeover Cost

The pricing for your mommy makeover will depend on the treatment plan that you and Dr. Sanders design together.

For example, you may decide to combine a breast augmentation or a breast reduction with a breast lift to get the fullness, shape, and position you want. You may also have a preference between silicone or saline implants and their subcategories if you choose to have an augmentation. Each surgery and implant type can affect the price.

Similarly, Dr. Sanders can perform a tummy tuck as either a traditional or limited procedure. A traditional surgery tightens the underlying muscle and removes excess skin and fat. Limited procedures only remove excess abdominal skin and fat. They are less expensive but also less common.

The best way to price a mommy makeover is to come for a visit. Together, we’ll talk about the areas you want to address, discuss what’s possible through treatment, and create a plan focused on achieving your goals.

Mommy Makeover Frequently Asked Questions

  • Are There Any Restrictions When Getting Mommy Makeover Surgery?

A mommy makeover is an incredibly personal procedure, so it’s difficult to say exactly which restrictions will be in place. That being said, some common restrictions include:

    • Not driving home from the surgery. Patients will usually spend one night at a recovery center, and the next day, they’ll need to have someone drive them home.
    • Limiting the intake of aspirin, fish oil, and blood thinners for two weeks before and after surgery, as these can cause excess bleeding. Patients will also need to stop any herbal meds they are taking that could interfere with anesthesia.
    • Taking several weeks off from work and taking care of the kids, as women won’t be able to lift heavy objects, bend over, or care for children.
  • How Soon Can I Schedule a Mommy Makeover Procedure After Giving Birth?

Ideally, women should wait several months after giving birth before they start thinking about a mommy makeover. This is because their bodies need time to heal after this major event. Their abdominal tissues will be stretched out and they may have wounds in their vaginal area that need to recover. Not only is this important for the woman’s health, but it’s also important for Dr. Sanders when planning the procedure. For example, if a woman wants to decrease her tummy size after giving birth, she may find that she naturally shrinks down to her pre-baby weight without any interventions after a few months. Her condition is now optimized for a tummy tuck. Waiting helps Dr. Sanders choose the correct procedure, which ultimately gives women the results they desire.

  • Will a Cesarean Section or Hysterectomy Affect Mommy Makeover Results?

Having had a cesarean section or hysterectomy will have no bearing on the results of a mommy makeover. In fact, having unsightly sagging skin from a C-section or hysterectomy is one of the primary reasons women choose to have a mommy makeover. Dr. Sanders can easily remove this extra skin and smooth out the belly, so it looks similar to the way it did prior to pregnancy or hysterectomy. In many cases, Dr. Sanders can even remove the C-section or hysterectomy scar when making an abdominal incision, minimizing the scar after surgery.

  • How Long Will My Results Last?

The results from procedures like a tummy tuck or liposuction are permanent unless you gain significant weight, which may alter your results. Other procedures, like breast augmentations, may need revising after a few years due to the effects of gravity on the body.

What Is the Recovery from a Mommy Makeover Like?

Your recovery will depend on the procedures you have. With both breast and body surgeries, you can expect to look great within a few weeks, but the final results can take up to a year to show.

Dr. Sanders generally limits mommy makeover surgery to less than five hours to ensure the safety of his patients. When you wake up, long-lasting local anesthesia bathes the surgical area with numbing medication that will keep the surgical sites numb, and you’ll also have the option of taking prescription medicine to further manage your discomfort. Tummy tuck patients may or may not have drains to reduce swelling.

Most of our patients want to know how visible surgical scars will be. Dr. Sanders takes special care during procedures to place incisions in inconspicuous locations. He also reduces stress on suture sites to encourage the incisions to heal as clean, thin lines. Following surgery, our practice promotes a regimen of silicone scar gel and other skin care treatments. As a result, scars tend to fade significantly over the course of a year.

Aftercare Timeline

A mommy makeover requires that you take time to rest. You need to avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medications, supplements, and smoking since these substances may all impact how quickly you heal. Dr. Sanders will also direct you to wear compression garments and take antibiotics to promote a quick and safe recovery.

For the first few weeks after the mommy makeover, you will need to avoid lifting anything heavy or doing anything strenuous. After several weeks, you can resume light childcare duties and household chores. You may drive after two weeks and get back to cardio in 4 weeks. After 6 weeks, there are no restrictions on your activity levels.
